Resumes & Cover Letters – How Effective Are They?

We have been conditioned to think that the only way we can secure job interviews is to respond to posted job openings with resumes and cover letters. The sad truth is that unless your resume is a mirror image of the job description or your application has the top number of ”keywords” in it, you will have a better chance playing Black Jack at a casino than landing a job interview.

Whenever a job is posted, there are herds of applicants all vying for that position. Competition is incredible. Of course, if the job description seems to truly fit you like a glove, by all means apply. But don’t put all your eggs in that basket.

Every job seeker does need a major league resume, laser- focused on the marketplace niche she wants to penetrate. She must also learn how to write a cover letter that succinctly conveys why she is a great candidate for an interview.

I want to share two resources when you absolutely, positively have to have the best possible resume and cover letters.

Jenny Foss and her dynamic colleagues at JobJenny.com have put together the Ridiculously Awesome Resume kit that teaches you how to do the job yourself. You can download the information as soon as you fork over the ridiculously low price of $39.00. Jenny and company take their business and their clients very seriously, but they view life as The Divine Comedy. They will make you laugh as you learn.

If you are a business executive seeking a six figure plus position, perhaps you will want someone to do the work for you. Well, then, you will want to run to contact Vicki Rotante, principal with Impera Executive Recruiters and Managing Director of Resumes – the Virtual Handshake. Vicki knows what it takes to land a senior executive position with a Fortune 500 company.  She is accessible and client driven. She will gain your trust within minutes of meeting her.

So there you have it: two great resources for resume and cover letter success, an essential, but not the only tool to take your job search to optimum levels.

Stay tuned for more tools!
